Tips for long trips?

I need tips because we are driving from the very bottom of Missouri to all the way to Kansas City about 5-7 hour trip

Maybe the locations where we live are different but that should not mean a lot of differences to the approaches of the tips people should ensure during long trips. Recently we suffered a lot while we were traveling in a car covering a distance of more than 400 kms. We did not prepare ourselves with food thinking we would get restaurants on the way. This did not happen as the place was totally new to us and we went starved all the way till we reached the destination- half dead! Thanks to the driver who still managed to control the vehicle in this situation.
